Ideas I'm contemplating for my 'stable' for two characters:
KO: I'm open to suggestions on how to improve the eruption story here. "Turned into an MMO character," when said out loud, does sound kind of stupid. One thing I was toying with was the notion that Daniel discovers he is a latent and both him and C.F. (mentioned below) try increasingly inane methods of provoking eruption, with the expected 'hilarious' results.
Also am giving Danielle an older sister, a semi-professional artist who specializes in paintings of chairs. Sibling relations is one thing I regretted cutting out the first go-round. I'll also be giving Knockout a best friend who is an even bigger schmuck than she is, who attends college with Daniel pre-eruption.
Knockout still has the generic powers of toughness, super-strength and the ability to fly; also is preternaturally gorgeous.
Vixen: the big change I'm considering is having her married prior to eruption, both her and her husband having accepted what fate's decreed for their relationship though they look forward to the day that Roxanne's place in the queue for spinal surgeries comes through. (I'm going with the notion that even with a new spine, the nerve damage is so ingrained that it would take lengthly physiotherapy for her to regain mobility.) Eruption of course, changes all of that, not necessarily for the worse, but there will be adjustments to make.
She'll still be claiming that a two-tailed vulpine she was studying bit her just before eruption, but will be unsure of what exactly that means, and will never find out. I know what it is, and have let it slip a time or two, but it's not something I plan to cover in 200X.
Powerswise I'll be keeping the broad-based original powers: sharp sense of smell, telepathy and telepathic illusions, flight, fire bolts, and I'll be adding molecular manipulation as a sort-of super-fine illusion; convincing the world a coffee cup is a pencil, for example.
The new character is named Miranda Sky (that's her stage name,) a low-ranking reporter who erupted when falling off a building. She gained Body Modification (Wings) and Flight 5. You can't really change the social-economic structure of an entire country with that, so she's opted to become an amateur documentarian, much like the novas mentioned in the Player's Guide. This gives her lots of excuses to hang around other novas, because she'll have a camera in her hand.

Any one have ideas for me? You are the spoiled, beautiful billionaire-heiress who is ugly on the inside. Your eruption will result in you learning to feel empathy for others, becoming as beautiful inside as out. Or you know, not.

Hmm...seems like there's a lot of telepaths with mirage getting floated. Not sure how that affects Whisper.
On the one hand, it's a concept almost guaranteed not to work well in an actual game setting, cuz she's too much of a paranoid loner...so this might be the only place I can really try her out. On the other, it seems silly to waste one of my character slots on someone that won't be covering much unique ground.
Maybe I'll just sit on that and re-assess later on...
So. Two characters. Two. HMM.

You mean as opposed to "dropped a hammer on my foot" or "got angry at a computer mouse"? The glory of a stupid eruption is it's more realistic, or at least something we can relate to. Realistic? "I was working at a help desk when I erupted. Blinding headache that was only slightly different from the normal migraine of talking with technostupid people under the delusion of being Steve Job in their past life. Suddenly the world opened up and I could see it in ways I never had before and have never found the words to describe. It was terrifying. Beautiful. Fucked up." "I teleported to the location of my bitching client and disintegrated him. It wasn't murder. I thought it was just the usual homicidal fantasy, including the look of shock and fear on their face, but more vivid. I didn't realize it wasn't a day dream until the smell of ozone and grilling hamburger hit me. I usually don't smell anything in the fantasies." "Devries has got some really good lawyers. Got me off on a manslaughter 2 rap and time served. Yeah, I'm a company man all the way." "So what's your story?"

The charter doesn't say you can't. Put the pressure on Nova... only one of two things could happen: 1. She'll snap and destroy you. 2. She'll cave and give into your whining. I have to admit, there are a few 2010 PCs I'd like to not see in 200X. But I roll with the punches.

I'm only against migration from 2010 to 200X because that topic's discussion thread was not settled to the satisfaction of enough people. Get more people on board for it and convince more of the doubters, and we can do it. For the record, I want to migrate Pew Pew Pew from 2010 to 200X. Edit:Here's who were against migration: White Rat: However, he's against everything. If nine people say the sky is blue, he'll argue that it's green just for the sake of the argument. Lou Anne Burgess: She's been against almost everything in the 200X discussion, and has even created threads for the sole purpose of slowing the overall progress of the 200X discussion. I think her reluctance on this issue is made of the same stuff. Craig: He voted no and said it's because he's a dick. I think he was joking. Michael McGee: Opined that we ought to wait and see for a month or so then revisit the discussion.
Edited by Nova OOC (02/25/08 01:11 PM) Edit Reason: Looked at that thread more closely.

Even if we do, at some point, allow 2010 imports, there needs to be a limitation on it. As it stands, you get all your 2018 characters (whether that's 1 or 10), plus an additional two new creations. If 2010 is already overpopulated, letting people bring anyone/everyone over is only going to repeat that problem in 200X, I think. Set a post limit, or a number of character limit, or both, for auto-conversion.

Set a post limit, or a number of character limit, or both, for auto-conversion. I agree with character limits coming from 2010 to 200X, but I'm not sure where you're coming from with the idea of a post limit. I disliked 2010 because it felt overpopulated and watered-down, and each monthly wave of new novas only made it worse. It was like a sea of unfamiliar faces to me, and if I made the effort to understand a character, that character would quickly fade into obscurity behind the next wave of new characters. The 200X era has a restriction on the number of brand new characters to prevent this from happening again. I'd like to suggest a further compromise if we decide to migrate from 2010 to 200X: keep the current character import mechanic of 200X (unlimited 2018 reboots), and allow only one brand-new character in calendar year 2008 and each calendar year to follow. Furthermore, restrict all 2018 and 2010 migration to the first sixty days only, after which, only new characters may be created. This way, the flood of characters is restricted to a two-month period designed to jump-start the forum, and new characters trickle in very slowly after that.
