How did I become a nova?
It happened like this...
One day I was hanging with this girl I had a crush on and we were kissing in her living room and life was pretty sweet! Man, she had the best freakin lips, totally great for kissing.
The next day was the Friday before spring break. After school, I offered to walk her home and like a gentleman and an idiot I offered to carry her books for her. She accepted and we started walking. That's when it all started going bad. Before we could get out of the school parking lot she saw this guy she was obsessing on that week and asked him if he'd like to walk with us. So there I was walking her home, carrying her books, and she was flirting with some other guy after we'd been kissing the day before! Oh, did I mention that she lived in the exact opposite directions from the school as I did, so that I was going way out of my way in the process?
Couldn't get any worse right? Wrong! We get to her house eventually and right as we arrive her mother pops out on the front porch bitching because Alice (We'll call her that. Names have been changed to protect the guilty) was making the family late going to some church thing or other. So, Alice looks at the guy and says in her sweetest voice, 'Larry, would you like a ride home?' Did I mention that I'm standing there right next to Larry holding her books and being absolutely and totally forgotten like I don't even exist? Next she takes the books from me and heads up the steps and is walking into the front door when she turns back and says, 'Oh, Daniel, would you like a ride too?' Larry is just standing there looking at me with this expression on his face like, 'Did that really just happen?' Needless to say, I declined her oh so thoughtful offer. Larry gave me a sympathetic look and followed the bitch into her house leaving me standing there dumbstruck.
Like I said, she lived in the opposite direction from school as I did and now I had to face walking the three miles or so home. The walk lasted years, or so it seemed at the time. I was hurt and furious and somewhere during that fateful walk, I erupted. There wasn't any car crash, I didn't fall off a building, nothing life threatening happened at all, but by the time I got home a had a headache. It wasn't even all that bad, and I didn't spontaneously become some supermodel guy able to get any girl in the space of a heartbeat. I was still plain old me who had just gotten used like a bloody rag and tossed in the bin.
Did I get any cool powers?
Hell no! The next week was Spring Break, and I was stuck at home because my parents were very strict and didn't let me do things at the time like go to South Padre. But I was determined that I'd never, ever be treated that way again. So I got a haircut and dipped into my savings and wheedled my family into helping me buy some new clothes. That week while most people were out partying, I spent some time at the mall figuring out what the latest hot fashions were and buying them and the rest of the time I spent at the school gym working out and running around the track. I'm talking several hours a day. Part of what clued me in to the fact that I had erupted was that the headache lasted the entire week, and I never got sore or tired from working out. I had never been that big of a fan of exercise but I'd done enough to stay in pretty decent shape and I knew what being sore was all about. During that week, there was never even the slightest twinge; my muscles just took the abuse and kept right on going. The Utopia doctors who examined me earlier this year said that the quantum was fueling the muscles and changing my body and that I was having what was called a slow eruption. I don't care what they call it, I'm just glad it happened.
When school started back the next week no one realized I had erupted, but they sure noticed a difference. I'd gone from being just your average guy to being pretty hot. It was like in one of those teen movies that come out every few years where someone gets a makeover and suddenly everyone is taking notice of them. Little miss bitch was still too preoccupied with Larry to notice, but everyone else sure did. Besides I was avoiding Alice at the time because I didn't want to face her. It didn't take long for the other girls in the school to start taking notice though. Don't get me wrong, at the time I wasn't all that hot, not even at the top of human standards and very definitely not up to nova levels of hotness. Still, when you go from dud to stud in a week you get some attention. Anyway, that's how it all started.
