Hello writers of 200x.
I recently had the opportunity to review the entire shitstorm of a flamewar that resulted from my call for a vote on certain aspects of the 200x bible.
While my initial intentions were more along the lines of some good natured demagoguery the whole thing quickly spiraled out of control with hurt feelings and angry writers all around. Furthermore, when all was said and things died down I felt rather stupid given that the changes I would have wanted were implemented. I should never have allowed myself to lose a concilliatory tone: after all, we all come here to have fun and enjoy ourselves.
I have spoken with and apologized to both Nova and Seph privately. To Nova for being so antagonistic and to Seph for making a one time, albeit major faux-pas in the public posting of a private message. In addition, although she insists that at this time it is a non-issue I would also like to make clear that I never intended to insult or defame any of her personal lifestyle choices. I deeply regret the animosity that resulted.
This thread is my more general apology to the rest of you. For wasting your time and bogging down the process with bickering non-constructive conversation. Again, we are all here to have fun and while I may have objected to certain things, that was no reason to proceed with such vehemance.
If you would like, this is the place to discuss any issues that may yet be unresolved in this matter. Nova and Seph have accepted my apology but it remains to be seen whether the rest of you will, or if there would be any objections to me rejoining the writing community in this forum.
One concern that i do have came from my rereading of the flame-war. While I did take on a rather bellicose attitude and said some very rude things, I was pretty appaled by the level of hatred and nasty comments that were written back to me. What I had intended as some kind of muckracking dissent became all too personal and my concern now is that whatever grudges may have formed there OOC would, if unaddressed lead to bias and IC animosity. While I sincerely hope that is not the case and feel that I can probably trust everyone here as adults it still seems like a good idea to get whatever may be hiding in the dark brought out into the light.
Thank you for your time, sorry to trouble you, and feel free to discuss as necessary.
Sincerely,
The Fool aka SkyLion aka Overload

I never intended to insult or defame any of her personal lifestyle choices. *facepalm* In any other circumstance I'd have to say something about the above quote. Given the purpose of this thread, I'm going to let it slide in the name of peace. Like I said to you last night, your apology is accepted, and I have no objection to your participation in 200X. As one of the three moderators of the 200X setting, I will give you the same protection and the same scrutiny as any other participant.

I mentioned that here because several other writers during the flamewar were incensed about percieved homopbobic comments I had made. While I was inexcusably rude, I *never* intended anything along those lines and am not in fact homophobic. Again I deeply regret any hurt feelings. The quote above was for anyone else whom I may have offended as a result of that...

One concern that >>>>> i <<<<< do have came from my rereading of the flame-war. You failed to use proper caps in this sentence. How can I forgive you when you insist on blatantly slapping us in the face with improper grammar? That aside, I'll tell you what I tell most people I know who've screwed up royally: "Don't apologize to me. Just make sure it was everything you wanted it to be because it won't happen again." As a player, if you want in to 200X then I could care less. Come on in and let's see what you've got. As far as thinking you're sincere, time will answer that, not an apology post. And yes, I was kidding about the grammar.

It's not that you bring it up again, it's that you call my orientation a "personal lifestyle choice." However, like I said above, I'm not going to get into that right now. It's off-topic.

This thread is my more general apology to the rest of you. Thank you. ... I was pretty appaled (sic) by the level of hatred and nasty comments that were written back to me. You don't get to be publicly appalled. Thank you for taking the time to write a formal apology but you still don't get that. It's not a right. What I had intended as some kind of muckracking dissent became all too personal and my concern now is that whatever grudges may have formed there OOC would, if unaddressed lead to bias and IC animosity. For me its very simple. No more crap and we're good. It's not that you bring it up again, it's that you call my orientation a "personal lifestyle choice." Although it is off topic I would like to say that, in the fortress of my mind, I file Nova under the heading of "Cute with Lois-Lane-as-drawn-by-Frank-Quietly_In-AllStar_Superman long legs". There are some cross headings too. "Girl Gamers", "Generally Nice People" and of course "The Short List of People I Know That Use Critical Thinking Skills". Spot on. The problem with being capable of eloquence is thinking the right combination of words will carry the day. It's the trap of thinking the words are the thoughts when in fact its only an approximation at best, and assumes the thoughts have an intrinsic value beyond the situation. In the future, should you find yourself in a similar predicament, I would suggest not succumbing to the temptation to focus on conveying your thoughts. Instead, try focusing on how you made her feel. A little compassion can go a long way.
