Steve is going to put an end to that anyway. The problem with comics, especially the early Superman type stuff, is that it's full of villians and everyone is a one dimensional character.

While there will be comics, and probably already are, Superman won't be in them because he's too powerful and not a *real* person with real problems and a real personality.

1935. It is the same day/scene. No one has adjourned for the evening except Omar storming out. I think switching to another day would be a good idea.

Comics: It was my understanding that you guys are producing comics, but they are not what our world thinks of as comics with lots of villains and super villains. At this point we don't want baselines to think of meta-humans in terms of heroes and villains. So far the comics are basically graphic novels with inspirational stories of people going above and beyond the call of duty to save people and things like that. They are mostly true stories of people sacrificing their own wants for the greater good or putting their own lives at risk for others.

It is possible that there has been something published with the 'superman' outfit, either in those comics or in other media. You guys have been publishing things for the last decade that would eventually lead to the smooth integration of metas and baselines.

Are we ending the chapter soon or is there something more to do?

Andrew has also retired for the evening as well, barring somebody wanting to either talk to him or do something that has nothing to do with the cabal, quantum science, or politics.

The chapter is ending after you guys have the conversation in which you set all your new plans in stone and put them in motion. I mentioned what needed to be done in my earlier post today. That's all that is left for this chapter, then I'll be awarding some NPs.

My interpretation:
I see going public as in publically acknowledging the existance of Specials. Whether a Special choses to come out as a Special is still their own business, just like other private information. Specials will be asked to be included in the Aeon Society database. In return, the Aeon Society provide counsuling and training.

I think Ulric will come out when the time comes. I'm not sure about everyone else. I even see members of the Paragons having secret identities if they see the need for them. I think Ulric could be a good public 'Face' for Specials that come out.

The weakness of us keeping Specials a secret has been exposed. I'm hoping it will be closer to 6 months than 6 years. I don't think we will be in the perfect position to come out, but I don't see the nature of the situation giving us the time.

Ulric and Omar won't have a choice but to go public. It's been 13 years since they entered the public arena, already people who meet them for the first time are saying things like, "You are younger than I expected." 5 more years and they will be getting the same reputation as Dick Clark. 10 years and people will have no doubt they are not normal, besides after 13 years some people are already starting to wonder if they are going to hold onto their positions forever or if someone else will ever be elected. Not that either have had any serious political opponent run against them in years.

It may be time for Ulric to accept the nod to run for president of the League. Things are still somewhat less democratic in the Arab nations so Omar can continue to hold his position for another decade or so before people start to get restless. Either way, if you two don't move on to other positions within 10 years you run the risk of establishing precedent of leaders holding onto power, which you very much want to avoid.

Ulric definitely wants to run for the President of the League. After about 10 years of that, he can retire to Elder Statesman and maybe, maybe become the Operations Director of the Pragons ... or some other low-stress job. grin

RE: Comics and what we are currently doing.
Exactly.

RE: Ulric and Omar stepping down
There's a good RL example. Washington had the ability to become dictator, and he chose not to. For that matter South Africa had Mandela (although he was pretty old at the end).

RE: Being Old
Steve's current solution is to keep group of young male "secretaries" around. Being a secretary was a pretty classy job in the 20's and 30's. This way he can be his own secretary, or if an in person meeting is needed, well, I've been assuming many people have been assuming that he's his own son, i.e. he looks maybe 21 but he's been wheeling and dealing for 13 years.

RE: App Alteration
Would Appearance Alteration let you look older? As written it's a solution in search of a problem.

Yes it would.

Also, I suggest having the Paragons be filled out with all three groups, Nova, Psion and Baseline, that way there is no jealousy.

Omar's plans:

1.) Continue the educational reforms he began. An educated populace will see themselves as citizens and not ethnicities or tribes.

2.) Work on modernizing and reforming Islam so that it can funtion in a pluralist society. (allow people to convert ot another religion without fear of death and intimidation; womens' sufferage, democracy, tolerance, and freedom of the speech)

3. Omar wants the CAC to compete with the EU for jobs, technology, and individual freedoms. To do that, he needs to Liberalize (as in Classical Liberalism) the society. That includes industrialization, federalism, and the adoption of capitalis. (He is using the US as a model)

4. The formation of a Federal Constitution, to be ratified by the States in the Confederation. Once that is done, Omar will leave his seat of power, and retire to help people in other parts of the world. If the people call for him to run for office, he will.

5. Join the Paragons as head of the 'Crisis Response Team'. He will keep his costume...for the time being.

This isn't an issue. Remember that you guys are spreading the wealth around, every part of the world is getting it's equal share of technology and industrialization according to the grand scheme you guys developed. It still may be another decade before the Arab nations catch up completely to the west, but it is well on it's way to that.

#4 is also well on its way to happening. However, keep in mind that the real goal is to get everyone worldwide into the League and looking to the League as 'their' government, and to their nation much the way the citizens of the US look to their States as being just a small part of a much larger entity. Nationalism was just to get everyone to gel cohesively, then from there you move them into the greater body of the League and transfer the nationalist feelings to the league. This is on its way to happening.

Steve's plans.

Economic:
1) Continue to work with Andrew in forming companies to take advantage of the technologies he's is releasing.
2) Continue to take over media companies and use them to further our ends.
3) Both of those activities will generate absurd amounts of money. Steve will also try to create money with future knowledge & megas & luck and try to economically tilt the field in ways we want.

Political Front
1) Fund political types we like at all levels.
2) Fund and probably reform education.
3) Lobby for economically sensible laws.
4) I assume there will be countries that pass laws that defy economic laws, Steve will make sure when they get their comeupance that it's public.

Social
1) Start to shine a light on the cesspool that is racsim (just getting blacks the right to vote would be pretty huge).
2) Fund efforts to make people less ignorant of economics and science, but a big part of educational reform will be social education.

The Fifteenth Amendment to the US Constitution gave Black Americans the right to vote. It was ratified on February 3, 1870.

What you might be referring to is the Voting Rights acts of 1965, '70, '75, and '82, which effectively remove the disenfranchisement of black voters in the south.

Cody has aged a decade but Nova Metabolisms he doesnt really look much older..maybe 35 at most and a prime one at that. Still given the scale of the game its time to buy a dot of mega stamina.

Re: Plans

Cody's educational plans have been pretty much implemented for awhile now, from grade school through College. The schools in this world are now much more like the best of Waldorf or Montessori. Children are catered to as individuals and allowed to pursue passions from an early age. Cody has pretty much retired although he does advise the baseline commitees through his private fund and acts as a liason to the League.

As for the future, Cody will continue working as an implemeter for the team, especially with Steve. He also wants to explore his gestalt with Donnighal, specifically in regards to extra terrestrial phenomena.

Cody is pretty much looking forward to letting go of running a single world on a single timeline. Its taxing, time consuming and ultimately somewhat pointless. In other words, small fishbowl. Granted it has proven an excellent laboratory.

Would you rather have a larger amount of NP or a smaller amount of NP with some xp thrown in?

What you guys are talking about doing sounds good. Racism is already being attacked though the indoctrination program in schools as well as receiving a very negative coverage in the media. Anyone that is openly racist is portraited as backwards and just short of evil in some cases they are called evil. Victims are shown as people and the media always put a personal face on any acts of racism reported so that the average person can't just look away and pretend they aren't people just like themselves. Even in only 13 years you have made quite a bit of headway, but complete elimination will literally take 2 generations for it to be gone entirely.

Joanis goals... well.

Supporting the President and help founding the Freedom League or Paragons (I'm with Paragons btw).
I like the idea of playing the Presidents bodyguard or personal secretary - I feel more comfortable around someone who has a clear vision of political, economical and educational things.

Joani will also try to catch up with the "grand scheme" in order to see how she fits best. Right now I see myself more like a public face for the Paragons and responding to immediate threats (whatever their nature may be). If Omar pushes for this, I'll step back as second in command - he is longer around and has far more experience.

And I agree, the Supergirl roll isnt about just managing the paragons...its a hands on position. Omar can do that too but it sounds like he is confused about what Joanis role was supposed to be.

I'm at the end of Chapter 3 now - I must say, some very entertaining stuff smile

I do know where things are headed, but just on the metalevel - Joani is still oblivious to the extend of your actions - but thats not as important for her. You guys are more capable in what you are doing. Her strengths lie somewhere else and I'll keep ICly to those. She needs some space for development and could reach an advisory position or something along that line. Honestly I'm glad to have just jumped on board, else I'd be very intimidated by the detail for your research and application of knowledge concerning politics, economics and education. You are all either very resourceful or are a bunch of grade A Students with high motivations to really change the world. I'm learning here... I wasn't aware of many things possible nowadays.

Re: Leaving this Timeline

Umm, while I somewhat understand your feeling Cody (though I don't share it) as of right now we are stuck here. Unless I missed something we still don't know why Lorean cannot jump. Maybe Andrew can put a little time into that issue during the next downtime, he still has time to ply Einstien for help.

Well, only 2 people have expressed votes on nps vs nps+xp. Unless I hear other votes to the contrary I'll go with that.

Btw, I usually give a varying amount of xp based on participation, but this time around you guys all did such a spectacular job that I'm going to give out a set amount to everyone. (Not including Walter since he didn't participate in the current event aside from one post.) 15 NPs and 20 xp. That's a ton of nps and xp, but since we are about to jump forward about 60ish years, it should simulate the time that elapses as well as reward you guys for some terrific work in this chapter.

I mean all of us. Steve currently has Resources 3 and Influence 1. For who he is and what he's been doing, that's FAR too low.

For that matter, you public novas are going to be public novas, and over 20 years it'd be hard to not wrack up the bucks unless you're giving it to charity or something. A nova point is an extremely worthwhile investment on this sort of thing, especially since we now have a few handy.

Similarly, we're going to be meeting people, probably dating and the like.

Yes, please sink some of those points into resources and influence, contacts, allies, etc as makes sense for your characters.

Keep in mind though, that buying these things strictly for this one timeline means you are paying half the normal cost. If the resources are something you plan to take with you when you leave it will cost full price. On the other hand, you can always use this timeline as a base of operations if you do things right and don't botch the next chapter.

RE: Resources
We have to measure the amount of gold in Lorean's hold in tons. We have the cure for cancer, various high tech stuff we've picked up or otherwise aquired, I think Steve is stuck paying full price.
