I'll point out that "leaving a message" isn't the same as "deep probing him".

Menu Options:
1) Can Cody Teach Matt how to shield? In theory he could implant the knowledge. How well it took is a different question.
2) Bring him onto the Lorean. Presumably this also means bringing him up to speed. Note this isn't actually a bad thing ASSUMING Cody probes him a bit and thinks it a good idea. In theory Cody could erase his memories of this if he doesn't work out.
3) Kill him. Bad option, but its there.
4) Hope he isn't contacted (wishful thinking, especially since this leaves Matt out on a limb.)

My View: Option #2. We should co-op him. That's what we did with Divis, that's what we should do with the people that oppose us because they're ethical and we're doing unethical stuff.

The business is expanding and we're going to need more people. Matt is talented, powerful, connected, and he's going to be a real problem if he's working for the other side. So let's have him work for us. That way he can be powerful and talented for us instead.

we dont have to "bring him in" just cuz he is on the ship...if he is in a secure room...granted he could desolid through but if we isolate his room so its surrounded by vaccuum...

So Cody used 3 QPs for the telepathy at Matthew's house last scene. Current Scene has spent 6 QPs on telepathy attempts and 3 QPs on Quantum Leech. if that last Q leech was successful he should be up 12 QPs, meaning his Pool is back to full...and she is close if not past half empty.

Another 3 QPs for telepathy followed (3 seconds later in the next turn) with a q-leech. I fsuccessful he will be full+1 QP.

Also spent my first WP in awhile

I'm sorry about my last entry, I totally overlooked one page of the thread and didn't see, that Omar was already in the process of torturing the bodysnatcher.

I don't know how I could have overlook that but the forum been having loading problems with my connection. Maybe it didn't load a page and I thought it was updated.

I hope this does not pose any problems for the continuity.

I have been having issues with the site too. It has been taking a long time to load.

So the post took place before Omar went to knock in a skull. It happens.

Aside from the Asteroid I want the maid to see the toal destruction caused by thousands upon thousands of Chines space based nuclear weapons impacting Earth. Given what Lorean stated it sounded like we showed "her" some newsreels from The first and second world wars , and probably people starving in communist russia, the berlin wall etc. before getting into the Nova coninuity and the Aberrant War. Basically two centuries worth of historical violence summarized.

Just finding a vacuum would tell him far too much. And lets face it, we need him and people like him.

yikes - lots of posts

Cody, nuclear fuel is a very good economical soucre of energy, the problem is how it has been run and the fact that we have limited technology for dealing with the waste.

In the game Andrew should be more than able to max out the efficiency and there should be specials on file who can be brought in to use powers like disintegrate or warp to deal with the waste remains by elimination or sending them to someplace safe, like say the sun.

I'm not sure. I'm under the impression most of our problems dealing with the waste are political rather than technical.

Disintegrate would need power maxing and burn people out in the scale required.

Warp is a pretty good idea, but I'm nervious about someone making warp gates to the sun. Just pick a crater on the moon... or we could just dump it below a mountain.

Over the very long term we might have to introduce hyper-fusion... although that opens the door to home nukes. And tech police.

Right now, the French re-process their spent nuclear fuel. It reduces the waste to almost zero. They just keep reprocessing it. The reason why most others don't do it is because of political sensitivities to Breeder Reactors (which make Plutonium that is use to make nuclear weapons). The French don't care, they want efficient reactors and they want to reprocess the fuel. That waste is take to a reprocessing facility. Areva is the manufacturer of Plants and reprocessing facilities in France (and recently started building a few in the US)

In other words, the Plutonium that is used to make nuclear weapons, is an intermediary product of the reprocessing of spent fuel rods. That Plutonium is extremely dangerous and toxic until it is re-processed back into nuclear fuel rods. If some Plutonium is siphoned off before reprocessing is finished, it can be used in a bomb. Pick your poison. Lots of nuclear waste, or no waste, but the ability to manufacture nuclear weapons. Of course you could try to store the Plutonium, but I wouldn't reccommend it.

Well there we are. And frankly what little waste there finally is really ought not be a problem with a bunch of novas running around...

Thanks for the links I'll look into them

Ulric would suggest that we develop the technology and then let the populace decide. Let them vote on their future sources of energy. Lay out the consequences, risks, and benefits and let democracy do its work.

It pulls the team one more step away from the mistakes of Project Utopia.

I think that we are actually reaching the point today that we have really viable alternate energy sources. Less than 10 years should give us the improvements in technology that will make it possible kick the fossil fuels habit. The real test is developing the political will to make it happen. If every house and building in the country had super-efficient solar cells on the roof and heat exchangers in the ground in the yard, we'd reduce our draw from the grid by at least half, the problem is getting the people to make the initial purchase and convincing them that the looks of their house/business is less important than the benefit received. Oh, and I agree with Omar's post above about Nuclear power, the technology exists to make it a clean energy source, it just takes the political will to make it happen, and ensuring the security of the materials involved.

Oh one other thing. With the site being so iffy the last couple days, I'm going to make an effort today to back up the threads in the game to my local hard drive so that in the event of a catastrophe we won't have lost over a year of combined effort.

On that note, I would like to get everyone's email and IM addresses so that if such a thing ever did happen, we would still be able to contact each other and re-establish the game. Please send them to me in a PM, thanks.

They are shielded and have been cautioned that if they leave their room they will no longer be protected and could be attacked by the telepath. He is content to stay where he is for now, and lorean is monitoring to make sure he doesn't try sticking his head through a wall.

The good news is Steve is pretty resistant to this sort of thing. The bad news is he isn't immune. Omar may have to beat him unconscious if things get out of hand, but I'm betting "the maid" is too smart to make a move like that.

Well, on the bright side, we could Mox Steve's body. Does anyone have Eclipsidol? That could be a good trick, because it negates her defenses and halves he Mega-Atts that might help her resist.

Steve rolls 15 dice to defend against this AND he'd get an autosucc from spending willpower. She needs to spend a willpower point just to try so I'm not sure she can spend another on the attack itself. On top of that is the +1 diff (or more) she faces because of the link.

So it's very unlikely she'd get the 4 succ she needs for "full control". Granted, it's at least possible she'd get the 1 she needs for a transfer.

Assuming that she does transfer, she has different problems. Steve isn't physically able to exit, and he certainly isn't capable of overcoming Omar & Cody & whatever Lorean can do. Omar on his own would beat Steve in a box match.

After that it goes downhill. Cody is a full telepath and could probably force her out, it's even possible he could get his succ added to Steve's willpower roll. Disrupt would certainly force her out. And I can think of at least one other way which would just kill her (but not me). Steve can live without his powers, she can not.

Cody attempting to assist you would add to her difficulty plus you get 2 dice just from having the link. She would find a very difficult time of it, not that she wouldn't try though.

The problem is Mega-Dice are quirky. If she has Mega-Manip 3, Manip 5, and Dominate 3, she AVERAGES 5.9 against Steve's average of 7.8.

But with 3 megas it's not all that rare for her to roll 10 succ.

You could, but the teleporter sucks down a good bit of her quantum as is, with maintaining the shields it could be done, but will drain her that much faster.

hey, I just realized while backing up chapter 3 that you guys already have a working Quantum Field Suppressor that you took from the dead Proteus world. One flip of a switch and Sphinx is in a world of hurt. Plus, you have a proto-type from which to create larger units that would suffice for creating nova prisons.

Two things:
This brings up the whole spectre of torture for the poor Sphynx Nasty-Bitch. Personally, I say use it to scare the crap out of her, but I'm playing a politician.

Also, can we create a Psi-dampening field based on the same technology?

Given that Lorean is a Quantum Construct of some sort, I'd rather not turn it on here. But yeah, that's the final option we could play. IMHO it'd kill Mind-Witch, but any other nova would just lose their powers.

But the problem is I'm not sure she *can* feel pain, or get scared. Until we figure out more fully what we're dealing with here I don't want to let her know about the Q-nuller much less about Lorean.

There's at least one nasty undercurrent here.

the quantum null field device would not work for psi, but you might be able to use the principles in vovled in it to figure out one that would work with psi. Gonna take some R&D though.
