Cody, nuclear fuel is a very good economical soucre of energy, the problem is how it has been run and the fact that we have limited technology for dealing with the waste. I'm not sure. I'm under the impression most of our problems dealing with the waste are political rather than technical. In the game Andrew should be more than able to max out the efficiency and there should be specials on file who can be brought in to use powers like disintegrate or warp to deal with the waste remains by elimination or sending them to someplace safe, like say the sun. Disintegrate would need power maxing and burn people out in the scale required. Warp is a pretty good idea, but I'm nervious about someone making warp gates to the sun. Just pick a crater on the moon... or we could just dump it below a mountain. Over the very long term we might have to introduce hyper-fusion... although that opens the door to home nukes. And tech police.

Right now, the French re-process their spent nuclear fuel. It reduces the waste to almost zero. They just keep reprocessing it. The reason why most others don't do it is because of political sensitivities to Breeder Reactors (which make Plutonium that is use to make nuclear weapons). The French don't care, they want efficient reactors and they want to reprocess the fuel. That waste is take to a reprocessing facility. Areva is the manufacturer of Plants and reprocessing facilities in France (and recently started building a few in the US) In other words, the Plutonium that is used to make nuclear weapons, is an intermediary product of the reprocessing of spent fuel rods. That Plutonium is extremely dangerous and toxic until it is re-processed back into nuclear fuel rods. If some Plutonium is siphoned off before reprocessing is finished, it can be used in a bomb. Pick your poison. Lots of nuclear waste, or no waste, but the ability to manufacture nuclear weapons. Of course you could try to store the Plutonium, but I wouldn't reccommend it.
