A question: I have a player using Elemental Mastery (Earth) and Sphere. What he wanted to know is does this giant ball of earth disappear after he uses it, or would it stick around? Does he have to expend quantum for it to stay, or does he have this large ball of dirt to slam into people as often as he likes? Would he have to have matter creation to have it for more than a turn anyway?

It reads Duration: Instant, so I think the ball of earth disintergrates when used. If he wants a sphere of earth to hang around, he should use the Shaping technique from Elemental Anima first. The thing about Elemental Mastery is that you create your element from nothing - from raw quantum energy - so its not real to begin with.

Elemental Anima just lets you animate whatever is handy. So obviously a Sphere of Earth in that case would hang around (although it's no longer a sphere since it's exploded thus it's in little bitty pieces).

You create the effect, i.e. the attack, but not the element. And Yes, you would have to spend juice to use it again.

With Elemental Mastery, all of that still holds true but you don't need to have Earth around in order to attack with it. I.e. you can simply "create" the Earth at will. After that presumably it behaves like normal Earth (see also Tremor and what she can and has done, including creating an island).

In the anime "Witch Hunter Robin", a witch has this ability, it made for an excellant example of how this looks. Since the matter that makes it up is virtual quantum matter, it disintigrated into air fast once he was knocked out.

However, studing the book shows, "instant" as the creation time, and not the duration. The best choice is to take from other powers and consider it to have "maintainance" duration of (QR+PR) turns.

Letting the PC expend temp willpower to extend it's duration one step (IE turns to scenes, scenes to hrs., hr.s to days, etc.) is not to far fetched.
A perm will would make it perm

For the sake of game play, either verson (Instant permanent creation, or temp life creation) has an up side & a down-side, and the player can have either version, but once the versions chosen, should not be altered later without ST game play.
