AP Wire Dated Wednesday, May 14, 2008

Calcutta, India - Team Tomorrow nova Jennifer "Slider" Landers, under temporary contract to Novelty Consultation, was reported DOA at UN Franklin Moran field hospital this morning at precisely 4:02 am. Paraphysicians worked tirelessly for eight hours to reinvigorate Slider's failed biological processes, only to declare her dead after unsuccessful attempts.

Slider had been retained by Novelty Consultation to safeguard against Teragen corporate espionage, and agents of that organization are suspected to have some relation to her death.

Details are few and far-between in this event, but the act seems to be one of assassination, possibly linked to Teragen radicalism. Slider's injuries appear to have been caused in conflict with another nova, though no more information is forthcoming at this time.

I propose that instead people recall their favorite "Jen-moment". Mine was when she gently and quietly rebuked Pax at one of the Utopia fundraisers after he said way too much about Andre Corbin. This was days after his dismissal was finalized. She was so polite, and yet her words said exactly what she wanted them to say. I very much envied her at that moment.

We did some disaster relief work together barely two months ago. We had warped some mobile field hospitals in and one of the broke down right there on the spot covering her in mud. Everyone was still for a moment and then she just laughed, this musical sound that is ...
Covered in mud and she was still lifting everyone's spirits. I'll remember that laugh and that smile.

Wow. This is so out of the blue. I was hoping to meet her some day, she's always been one of my favorite novas. This makes me sad.

Fingers are being pointed at the Teragen being behind the attack. I'm not convinced.

I have never met her, and it is my hope that good works CAN get a person into Heaven.

You'd better hope so or 99.99999 percent of the entire species is going to burn in hades. Don't believe anyone that says the only way to salvation is through them and their method. Why? Because if you do that means you are condemning everyone else that has ever, or will ever live that doesn't believe exactly the right thing. Worse than that, even within most churches there are disagreements as to what 'right' belief is.

So, for the peace of my own soul and the hope that the rest of the species past and future will not be burning in hades, I will say that I don't believe that God is so cruel as to cast into punishment everlasting the 99.99999% of people that don't believe exactly the way some particular preacher says they should.

I believe someone like Slider has more than earned her reward by the virtue of her character.

(sorry to be so wordy about this, especially at a time like this, but it is a debate I've had with the elders at the church my parents raised me in.)

Hmm. I don't know what the social rules are at funerals. Plus, I wasn't sure if anyone here knew her at all. I thought I remembered reading on a Wiki article somewhere that someone did, and rather well. But I don't remember.

And funerals aren't for the dead; they're for paying respect to the living left behind, to let them know we've seen their pain and acknowledged it. Or so it's seemed.

I'm heavy-brained, and I have absolutely no clue whatsoever. This kind of thing is on a level that I haven't been on-- secrets and politics and murder and all, I mean. Come to think of it, I'd much rather not get involved in anything like that at all anyway. I'm much more content being Flicker from Cleveland and being very much alive.

Sorry, Flicker, I guess I just wanna make sense of this all. It's weird; I went through a phase where I wanted to be her, ya know? It was when I was younger and silly, 15 or so. But it feels personal, I guess, because I had this mental connection between us.

Holy Crap! Slider's dead? I got back from a hairy outing in Sudan on Tuesday, and I crashed until just now. They're saying Teragen? God, I met her once...she and Andy Parker spoke at the Rashoud Facility in Toronto while I was staying there. Recruiting for Utopia, I guess, I was kind of out of it at the time. She tried real hard to meet everyone, though, I remember that. She touched my shoulder and told me that I would be ok, to stick with it. That's it, no big deal, but it helped some. Wow, I can hardly believe it. Just when you think you've seen it all, done it all, nothing can touch you or surprise you...

Teragen? Mebbe. Hell, look at all the folks that Utopia has pissed off. Corbin, that Cain dude that hangs around, Nigeria, hell, half of Africa, the US and other heavy hitters. You got tons of folks that would be happy to nail any T2M'er regardless of it being Slider or not.

What a goddamned shame. She was a good woman, from what I knew of her. The type of girl who was genuinely a nice person. I saw her speak once, in the city, a few years back, and she just seemed to be really sincere. Could have all been smoke, but I never got that impression off her. Goddamned shame.

I think I have less to apologize for than you do. Funny that your immediate interpretation of what I said is that he's in hiding because he did the deed. I was just pointing out that if I happened to be the former and very public lover of a woman who had recently been killed, a woman I'd had a falling out with, a woman who worked for a group set in opposition to a group of terrorists at worst and lawless revolutionaries at best that I was a member of, in that case, I'd probably lie low for a while, too.
