The pic is a modified head shot of Dr. Manhattan (Watchmen). There is still work to do, as when it's uploaded here his skin looks too much like metal. Basically, the mask portion is about right ... but I'm trying to get the rest of him looking more translucent. The effect I am going for is a phsyical form in transition to energy being (when I get those high dots in bodymod someday).

Yeah I thought it had a quality like Manhattan crossed with Doctor Doom. So does that mean you are another artist in our ranks?

OOC I have some minor art skills, some photoshop dabbling and a tiny bit of training in old school drafting / architectural sketching. Having to do all the artwork for several of my businesses in the past also helped

Sorry I haven't been around, I was out of the loop that last couple of days, been doing some moving around and finally got settled in.

Please excuse my absence as well. Yesterday was my daughter's 4th birthday, and there was much more to do than I had thought. I had hoped to catch up last night, but my Mother elected to spend the night rather than drive back to Virginia after the party, and I couldn't see holing up with the laptop.

I am trying to come up with a succinct moniker for this ones bodymod - Energy. The best I have so far is 'Static Photon Matrix'. Essentially whatever photons at rest in sufficient quantities crystalize into, maybe with material impurities (given the low dot level he will be starting with).

If I made a lead man i would go bodymorph: Density Increase, and I would buy poison. You know..lead poisoning....oh and i would ask the ST if i could use the claws I would buy to write with like a pencil...

He can have corporate sponsorship from the Yellow Pencil company, wearing a yellow eufiber leotard with the pencils number designation on it (number 2 standard of course!), an eraser helmet and appear in commercials encouraging kids to study hard and do well on their SATS...!

I'm pretty sure there's no such thing as a "photon at rest." They keep going indefinitely, until they're absorbed by something.

That said, it's magic sci fi. You can name it whatever you want.

That's why it would be an interesting material to work with - when 'pure' (free of Fermions) it would be an immaterial, er, material. I like to throw bits of impossible science into Aberrant.

I was under the impression that the way things slow down at light speed means that all the light in the universe isn't actually moving at all. From that lofty omniscient perspective the universe is one giant crystaline form. So maybe you can be "crystalized light."

Also, OOC from a mechanics point of view I will say if you want high end bodymorph, to buy it all with NP. Otherwise for example if your fth dot is a single dot of armor and the reasy was DI, you end up gettin only 1 dot of effect for the cost of 20 xp and you overpay. Its a tricky thing with Bodymorphs. On the other hand if you have an energy bodymorph and you are going for Density Decrease 5 then it makes no difference and you gain a slight advantage from the bodymorph extras like lethal damage or difficulty to hit.

From the point of view of the photon, you may be correct. From our frame of reference in space time, we get relative velocity ... but yes, Crystallized light is what I am getting at. 'Crystal' however, describes something very solid, hard and brittle. Kind of the opposite I am going for.

Just think how much this whole thing would bug the scientists (like Dr. Krauss) IC. Heh. That'll teach them for trying to understand how Novas do their thing!

Not exactly. It is true that the scientific definiton of crystal means solid, but I was thinking more of it as an ordered latticework of structure, which could be energy as well. Like a laser lattice, a hologram made of a latticework of photons, or the ordered force field of electrons. And really since matter *is* energy its all the same. A crystal mineral appears solid to us but on the atomic (ie Quantum) scale its just an organized grouping of those elctronic force flield slined up in a certain way.

Impossible physics aside, I still have to figure out a Nova name for this one. Often, I like the idea of Novas leaving baseline names behind - or at least relegating them to a mere tag in the baseline legal system..

As long as you don't post something earth shattering like a war or something, there's no reason at all that everyone should not be able to post a news story about something that happened, or might have happened, or speculation, or anything fairly realistic...

While I certainly understand Jaunt's concern, I have no intention of taking the game into Thundercats or GI Joe land. That said, I have always felt that Aberrant is an attempt to take the superhero genre, follow all the conventions of the genre, but twist it just enough, add just enough of the real world into it, that it feels real. I mean, the XWF is kind of stupid and campy, but that doesn't mean that it isn't what would happen.

In any case, when brainstorming or kicking around ideas OOC, nothing is off-limits. You may have problems carrying out your grand designs, but I have no problem with you discussing it to your hearts content, complete with your secret volcano lair. It just may be more difficult than you think to implement in-game.

Criticism and dissection of the ideas floating around is inevitable and encouraged as well. Just please keep it all above the belt. Focus on the plans and ideas, not the player who proposed them. If the idea seems dumb to you, say it! That's what Jaunt did, and that's ok. If you think the player is dumb, keep that one to yourself. Doesn't cause anything but hard feelings.
