Food for thought ... an OOC preview of DL's IC musings. Please adjust for the fact that the player is not superhumanly intelligent, and a rank-amateur philosopher even in the very best light Establishing a common semantic framework to discuss evolution, specifically the nature of the Novus, is key to meaningful exchange and mutual understanding. The concepts of Trans-humanism and Post-humanism are key in this conceptual framework. All Novas are Trans-human, as all novas at a minimum exceed human capabilities in some way. Those novas still resemble humanity, even in evolutionary advancement - metaphorically traveling the same roads humans could evolve along. Note the implications of the use of the prefix 'Trans', transient, transitional, etc. which can be put as having one foot still on a human path and the other farther along. Humanity itself is traveling the trans-humanist path by definition, invariably, through generational biological evolution. This evolution is not the personal, continual evolution that helps to define the nature of a Quantum being, the Novus. Some Novus are Post-human, having completely diverged from humanity. Note that neither is necessarily a 'better' or successive state as arguments for such advancement being part of a linear progression are equally as valid as arguments that would label a Post-humanity as a sort of lateral advancement, or both. Post-humanism, along the lines as currently conceivable by Trans-humanist scholars (Kursweil, Minsky, etc.) in the later half of the 20th century, is an exotic state that is difficult to define. In the context of Novas it becomes much easier to point to. For example, humanity is solidly capable of social interaction and in fact defines the paradigm of such - conversation, non-verbal cues, etc. as traits that are clearly trans-human. Humans exhibit these capabilities, certain Novus commonly exhibit these same traits despite being superior in their application. Then we must look at the example of Telepathy, a mode of communication that is Post-human. In centuries of searching for this mode of communication, postulating it, humanity has never substantiated its existence in any sort of wide trial. The 'human definition' does not commonly include telepathy, society has not built it's morays around it, it is not part of the 'baseline' conception at all. Telepathic Novus could thus be considered Post-human. Many such specific examples exist, as one can define humanity with a myriad of parameters. This leads us to the need for further sub-classification along human lines: Anatomy, Cognition, and Behavior.

For those in Chapter 2, are you all ready to be jumped or do you need some more time?
