Minor Physical Change (Reptilian Eyes, +2 penalty to interaction skills) Hailing from parts unknown Jon Erebus is an enigma wrapped in a riddle and stored in a puzzle box. A mercenary for hire, he's been known to take on just about any job regardless of its level danger and often times for pay far lower than the risks warranted. Erebus has a bad reputation for survival. Most people who've tried to double cross have found themselves weeks later face to face with the man they made sure was dead. Some would boast that this increases Erebus's price as a mercenary, but the truth is: no one knows how he survives the things he does. This has left him with a reputation of bad luck amongst other mercenary factions and most refuse to hire on with him. They find it odd that when the shit hits the fan, only Erebus seems to make it back alive. Tall and handsome, in a rugged sort of way, Jon appears to be a typical mercenary, usually unshaven and with a few days stubble. He cusses like a Concord Drill Sergeant and carries himself like the toughest S.O.B. to ever crawl from the bowels of the galaxy. He never speaks of his own personal past but often, if asked, will talk about people he's teamed up with in the past. He tends to talk like he never formed any sort of lasting bond in his lifetime with another living soul. People seems to be just things to talk to to pass the time. He's the Captain of the Machiavellian Rue, or 'The Mack' for short, a starship whose design does not exist in any stellar database. [work in progress]

BackgroundBorn to wealthy parents from Mindwalker families, indeed having a Mindwalker father. It is not surprising that Gabe was born while in Drivespace, and so joined the ranks of the Starborn. However, unlike the pampered, half-revered majority of that group, Gabe was given only a normal, generally loving upbringing. That changed when the testing for which secondary school he should attend confirmed his fathers feeling that Gabe had inherited his Psionic abilities. He was sent to a religious order/academy for his education and psi training, graduating as a lay brother at the age of 21. After a brief visit home he set out on his wanderings to learn more about the universe, about Drivespace, about himself and the other sentients that live in this group of dimensions. He somehow obtained the alien artefact that has taken up residence on/in his right forearm while working as a labourer on a dig of a Precusor site about 1 year ago. The site had been a minor goal to visit, but he found the ship he had arrived on, working his passage, had left without him and so he was at a loose end while awaiting the next ship to visit. He simply woke up with it on his arm one morning when he had been working there about 4 days. With some difficulty he managed to conceal it from his associates at the dig until he was able tn get a berth on the next ship to visit the planet - the Mack. Alien Artefact - 'Implant - Right Arm'In fact this appears to be a cross between a starfish and a cuttlefish, in that it has the 8 arms of the cuttle fish, but of more variable length apparently, but is pretty flat. Only one eye is visible on the surface, there may be another on the side which has tightly bound itself to and in many places through the skin of Gabe's right forearm. Scans show that it has numerous fibres projected from its body and arms/tentacles that have connected to the capilliaries and nerve fibres of the arm. From a distance it could be mistaken for a tatoo, but any inspection at conversation distance would reveal it to be a creature of some kind. Powers - That Gabe can useStar Transciever - 10 LY, up to 1 minute conversation per day, Awareness - Intuition check to target recipient. Displacement - 3 rnds per day, Melee and Ranged attacks get a +2 penalty DrawbacksBlackouts - about once an adventure Compulsive Behaviour - Moderate The idea that came out of discussion in chat Dave was something like a parasitic symbiote from Rifts (the Atlantis books I think). A monitoring device it blacks Gabe out periodically (once per adventure, perhaps at/near the end), when the one eye showing opens, in order to make a report back to it's masters using it's Star Transceiver. When it is reporting it has a much greater range than the 10LY ability that Gabe has sub-consciously been able to hack into due to his Psionics. Personality and Interaction with other PC'sGabriel at first impression fits the stereotype for an Orlamu, pleasant/friendly, but preocupied with science. Having spent 10 years being schooled by a religious order he is generally calm, and polite, even if angry inside, and would try to approach things logically. He is genuinely interested in anything new, and in meeting new people, which can sometimes go over the top in questioning people about themselves. Having found out about the unusual drive on the Mack Gabe could happily spend his life studying it and trying to work out how it works, but he is also aware that they need work/money to keep food on the table and to keep the Mack running. Erebus: while initially very gratefully to Erebus for getting him off the planet he had found himself briefly stuck on that has faded. He still likes Erebus, despite getting the thick end of his tongue on an apparently regular basis, and respects his ability to both get them into, and out, of trouble. Although Gabe obviously disagrees with Erebus' opinion of Psionics, he has come to agree that for a stand up fight you need to have a gun and extra clips to make it through to either the end, or the point where you can use the Psionics effectively. One of the things that undoubtably irritates Erebus is his habit of using the passive sensors to examine local stellar/spatial objects during his watch, as well as his other duties, but forgetting to reset them afterwards. Corso: Given his interest in science he obviously makes a nuisance of himself to Corso. He seems to have an uncanny ability to ask questions that are just relevant enough to her current project that she has to consider, or answer, them. Otherwise he is, at least generally, neat enough for her likes, mainly due to not having much in the way of possessions and being used to a minimalist lifestyle he keeps things tidy by habit. Jordan:Considers the sect that taught Jordan to be rather unusual, to say the least, but given the circumstances all he can do is to encourage him to learn about modern life and to try to help him expand his mental powers. Unfortuntely, Jordan seems to be the sort of Psionic that reinforces Erebus's opinion of them all. Isis:Not sure what to make of the android, but has, over time, gotten used to her sudden changes in what passes for her personality. Approves of her 'desire' to improve herself, as it parallels his own constant curiousity and study. Shiro:Gabriel probably irritates Shiro by always having a Drivespace course ready, although he never pressures Shiro to use them. This is due to his personal version of the Orlamu religion, by which he spends at least 30 minutes a day using his Navcognition plotting courses through Drivespace to other local and significant systems. This both gives him a feeling of being connected to Drivespace and increases his familiarity with the local area of Drivespace.

Shiro Asano is a former starship pilot for the military who decided to go to work in the private sector when his tour of duty was concluded. He serves as the Mack's pilot and navigator. His former post was relatively boring with only a handful a real engagements within his term of service. In each engagement he aquitted himself well as both a pilot and gunner. He's not a tall man and tends to be very quiet. He isn't very strong physically, primarily due to his extended time in deep space. However he is adept and moving and working in those same conditions and daily exercise has helped him maintain musclemass so that he isn't helpless on the ground. (work in progress as far as backgrounds go)

Although he is from the StarMech Collective originally, he's since done business for a number of clients including VoidCorp, Austrin-Ontis, Insight, the Union of Sol...most Stellar Nations in fact, or their companies, with the exception of the Thuldan, and the Hatire Community. Shortly after participating on an expedition sponsored by the Borealis Republic, Dr. Kappa boarded an unmarked private spacecraft and took off for parts unknown. He has not been seen or heard of since, and nothing is known about the owners of the mysterious ship he left in.
Isis awoke spontaneously (most likely at a preprogrammed time or trigger) in a small cargo container at a spaceport. She had on her person a small satchel of items, including some money. Outside of the satchel, resting on top of her belly, was a single data crystal. On it was a recorded message from Dr. Kappa, explaining hurriedly that she needed to find a distant colleague of his that he trusted named Corso. He added that she would need to keep a low profile and avoid notice, then noted that there would be people coming for her eventually, and that she should avoid capture by all means. Then he apologized for not having the time or ability to provide more help, or more information. On the crystal were some notes and diagrams, but not complete technical specifications or blueprints. The female-appearing android had only basic software in her memory.
From there, Isis haltingly made her way across the Verge, tracking Corso down...finally finding her just 6 months ago as she was negotiating to join the crew of a small ship. Isis joined that crew herself, though still has many unanswered questions regarding her past, her present, and most especially her future.
Video - Dr. Kappa's Message Dr Kappa is an older human, looking to be in his late 50's or early 60's, with a thinning shock of white hair and small lensed round spectacles over his intense round eyes. He's dressed in a white lab coat over a plain dress shirt with no tie. His face is longer than it is wide, and his ears poke out a bit. When he speaks, his voice is tense, anxious. "Isis, I am doctor Anton Kappa, and I am sorry that I won't have time or freedom to tell you everything you want to know. Right now, we'll both have to settle for what you NEED to know." He takes a breath and seems to calm down a bit. "Annwn Corso. Remember that name. She's a colleague, one of the few I...think...I can trust. You will need her help." The doctor leans closer to the recorder at that point. "You have to keep a low profile. Blend in. Try to act human. I will do what I can to distract them, but they will come for you. The harder you are to find, the longer it will take. Find Corso before they find you. Tell her what you are and who made you." He grins at that. "Which is me, if it's not clear. They've made such a mess of you, I don't even know for sure..." Abruptly Kappa cuts himself off with a quick shake of his head. "I'm including everything I have on your construction. Unfortunately, they've deviated from my specifications, and now my clearance is revoked so I can't update the specs. This means there are design elements that won't be in them. But..." The scientist nods smugly, "...there's things in you that they don't know either. Or don't understand, at least. Your software is incomplete...you're not ready yet, but I'm out of time. You'll have to learn as you go, like the rest of us. Take care of yourself. Don't let them take you." Jordan Hawkins was born and raised in a small Mindwalker colony in the Orlamu Theocracy. This Heretical branch of the Theocracy believes that they must give up advanced technology to master their psionic abilities. They also believe that only when this mastery has been attained can they re-develop their advanced technology, based on psionic principles and powers. Jordan began training as a mental defender of the community, a Mind Knight, at a young age but as he got older he grew restless with the monastic life that had been chosen for him. Shortly after his 22nd Birthday, Jordan "convinced" the captain of a trading vessel dropping off supplies to take him on as a passenger to the nearest starbase. He was there for a month with no luck in finding work. While many were interested in taking on a Mindwalker, they balked at Jordan's complete lack of familiarity with anything technological. Jordan isn't really sure why Jon Erebus agreed to hire him onto the crew of The Mack, although he likes to believe that the captain was able to see his value despite his primitive upbringing. The truth remains to be seen.
