And yes, you should walk away when I'm doing so...

So, here's the gist of what I'm getting at.
1: Cestus Pax = Gauntlet of Peace. A Cestus is a type of gauntlet. Sort of strange.
2: Divis Mal = Deviant Maul. So, an irregular wound?
3: Project Utopia = Building Perfection? If perfection is something that exists, then why is it being built? Anything built by mortal hands is imperfect.

Why did I let my mind wander like this? Well, every once and a while, I get this urge to just... creatively think.
A yen for your thoughts anyone?

Forgive the rant. But, feel free to express here. Think of this as a creative thinking thread. Come on, even TUM TUM could have fun with this.

Sure, let's start with this. What good in the world would a yen do me...

And everything is perfect.Everything is the way it is ment to be..Just because you do not like it, doesn't mean it is not the right way.

Lastly Endeavor, remind me why, I shouldn't go over there and say kick some sence into you?

I hope you don't actually believe that Divis Mal chose his name because it sounded similar to this deviant maul which you suggest.

1. Cestus Pax does indeed mean Gauntlet of Peace (or at least that's what I think he indends despite his bad grasp of Latin). His choice in name (if it indeed was his choice) sends a fairly clear message to those capable of translating his name. The implication here is that he is more than willing to use force to achieve peace. Remember that a Cestus was a Gauntlet used in Greco-Roman gladiator games and is as much a weapon as a protective device.

2. While Latin is not a language I am intimatly familiar with, I believe "Divis Mal" means something along the lines of "Terrible Angel" although I could easily be wrong on that point. Still, of the two translations we have so far, which difinition would you choose?

3. I believe the Project is using the term Utopia as an ideal to strive for rather than an actual state of being. What they seem to be saying is that they are striving to build the ideal world society. And I'd like to remind you Endeavor, just because something seems impossible in all practicality, does not mean one should cease striving for it. Standing still gets you nowhere and while you may never actually achieve that which you strive for, often it is the journey that gives you what you truly need.

Avatar? Are you that religious looney from America?

Sure hope not.

Anyway, what I really have to say is this:

Since you obviously don't know the meaning of Utopia, look it up. That goes for you too Endeavor.

I sorely doubt that Project Utopia will actually be able to build one (a paradise, so to speak). No two people in the world has the same concept of a perfect world. PU has made some incredible efforts in making the world a much better place, but to claim they can make it into a new Eden, that's a large pill to swallow.

Utopia, the greek word for no where.Or the land that is not land. Also in refrance to a paradise of sorts.

As noted the term, and word utopia meaning no where, come fromt eh fact that no one see perfect int he same light.ANd that the only waya to change that would be if everyone was the same, and then it would be a new kind of hell.

Very good, Sandy! You got the meaning of the word.

As for your second paragraph, I have no idea what you are talking about, though I think I agree on parts of it.

Sandy:

Alright, what's gotten into you? I came over to that meeting of yours to see what was up, and I've agreed to help you out. Now you threaten to kick my ass? Yeah. Some gratitude.

I actually thought I had a potential associate. I mean, here I am just playing around with words, and it's grounds for an ass kicking? Come on Sandy, I know you better than that. I'll happily take your apology, but not continued threats.

Okay, I'll have to find what box my Dictionary is in. Still haven't unpacked my small library of reference books, so I hope you can wait on that one.

Well, this is more interesting...

I come up with a thread for random creative thought. An "Experimental" thread if you will, and an order was formed from chaos... I made this thread just for not really focussing on a subject, but for expressing what was on your minds. Not like 2 Minutes Hate, but something more constructive. Debating a subject is fine... but... *sigh*

Perhaps I should clear my head and se what new thought comes up... BBL.

Warlock,

No I am not "that religious loony" from America. To be honest, I have no idea who you are refering to.

As for your snide comment, I know what the definition of the word is but since you obviously don't, here is Merriam-Webster's entry for "Utopia."

Main Entry: uto·pia
Pronunciation: yu-'tO-pE-&
Function: noun
Etymology: Utopia, imaginary and ideal country in Utopia (1516) by Sir Thomas More, from Greek ou not, no + topos place
Date: 1610
1 : an imaginary and indefinitely remote place
2 often capitalized : a place of ideal perfection especially in laws, government, and social conditions
3 : an impractical scheme for social improvement

I believe the progenitors of the Project were thinking of the second definition of Utopia when it came to giving their organization a name.

Avatar.

You're correct. Divis' moniker means, loosely translated (Latin is a dicey language like that, but I asked the man himself), 'Terrible Angel', a very fitting nom de plume, were one to ask me.

Endeavor.

No, I don't think so. And that has nothing to do with my own personal distaste for the man.

If Tum-Tum was indeed a wounded intellectual struggling to break free from a sinewy shell, I don't think he's make the kind of posts that he does. As a matter of fact, I don't think he'd be making posts at all. I think he would have checked himself into a Rashoud Clinic and gotten hooked up with a telepathic interpreter.

I can think of no reason why Tum-Tum is not simply happy the way he is.

I think I recall a nova precher by name of Avatar raising a ruckus in New York, not such a long time ago. Can someone else help out?

Snide comments is what I am all about.
In this case it seems I was a bit hasty, I didn't realize that the word even existed in English and I was refering to the Greek meaning of the word. Suddenly Sandy makes (more) sense too.

Therefore, snide away! I am, at the moment at least, a justified target for your scorn.

If I recall, the Avatar was a rather religious nova in New York, that's correct. If I recall, He managed to shut down a Michaelite enclave (with assistance from the public). A short while later, the Avatar apparently vanished from public view. This was a good while back, as far as I know.

Strangely, there were a few rumours a few months after the Avatar's disappearance connecting him to the same Michaelite enclave, but noone ever came up with enough evidence, or even a plausible reason why he'd bother.

I recall a few nutcase rumours floating around that the Avatar was connected to the Michaelites in some way, but noone's given a decent reason as to why he'd bother, let alone any decent evidence.

You know, all this stuff is in news archives on the Opnet...

There is a belief that there exists a point of reason and understanding were everyone will be content. It is as much a dream as say, clean air or unpolluted oceans.

Note, some people may say that the problem isn't with the scene, but the viewer. 'Fix' the viewer so that they understand the situation is, in fact, perfect. Then, there really is paradise. Paradise may not be the place were you have everything you want. It may be that place were you are happy with whatever you have.

Just something to think on.
