Home...
It's something I have always thought would be something... transitory.
Over the past year I have literally been adrift. Lost. Cast away. I'm now beginning to realize something greater than myself. A dream.
I picked this building, in this district, for a reason. It represents my eccentricity and spread of focus.
The building itself is a good start, a 12 level office complex recently vacated by a software firm that got absorbed by Viasoft, and relocated to Yokohama. Nothing fancy, just a white building, no fancy archetecture. I had purchased a small building next to it to house vehicles I'm having stored there for use if needed.
But the final touch...
An old bank building, no more than 5 stories tall, I've decided to move into. It's been closed and marked for demolition for god knows how long, 9 years? I guess buying it from the city at a discount was a good tactic since it was one foot in the grave at the point I bought it.
God, it needs alot to be done with it. The wiring needs to be updated for code, the walls need to be reconfigured on the first floor to accomidate visitors, and I need to modify a section of the first floor and basement for a elevator-equipped dual-level garage.
First time I flipped the breakers though on my new home... and hearing the flouresecent lights hum and smelling the ozone created by it... it feels good. Solid ground below your feet. It's something you miss when you're out at sea.
I checked the elevator soon afterward. It works. But the last owner of the property was using the elevator car for storage. Hell, most of the property was. He was abuot to sell the building because he could no longer afford the taxes on the property.
He's a bookstore owner down the street. American. Nice fellow. Well, he doesn't own it, his wife does, a shrewd business woman. She knew having a Nova around would attract business. I agreed to let them use the third floor for their store's stock storage. I have no problem with that.
The fourth floor I'm putting in as much of my private lab work as I can from my ship. While the fifth... That's my storeroom.
There is a nice caretaker shack on the top floor. It has a space-heater/AC unit, and a nice patio. Put in a couple tables, and I'm good to go.
They had a woman living here. Mean case of shizophrenia that one. She thought I was some sort of spirit-creature... I helped get her moved to her aunt's. She agreed to take over her care, since the woman was the sister of the shopkeeper's wife...
Poor woman... I wonder why she isn't getting treated for it?
Odd question...
In any case it'll be good to sleep on a bed and not worry about the ballast on the ship being mis-balanced and cause a capsizing... The earthquakes might be something I'll have to get used to again.
Hopefully the setting up of my offices is going better...
Oh crap, I got work tomorrow... Well... better use the showers on the fifth floor, and get ome rest in. My joints are freaking sore.

When things go well, usually it's a streak. Sort of like a domino effect. I talked with Mr. Yukijima at the Prime Minister's office, and he was more than happy to hear my initial projections on roll-out at 99% efficiency would hold true past the new year. That and the new Fire Engine design was being rolled out as well to various fire departments. Combining the versatility of an Aerodyne with the carrying capacity of a Fire Engine. I was rather impressed myself when I got the initial prototype off of the assembly line, and even more so with the speed of production.
I'm starting to wonder how many people I'll owe for this success.
After that it was into Akihabara to meet up with a Mrs. Aino. She ran a very high-end computer firm that needed security to monitor the activities of their workers when logged into the company database. There was a rash of data-thefts, and she needed me to look over security.
After looking over her data-logs though, and the set up of security, I discovered an unknown OpIP address from outside the network. After collecting information for her lawyers to pursue, I checked, and indeed, her security was adequate, and suggested a few firewall and network management upgrades I could provide. I successfully steered her away from monitoring her employees, but I'm sure she'll figure a way on her own. She knew what I was taling about, so she wasn't some average Jane Baseline.
Had lunch in Shinjuku with a potential PR handler. A nice man by the name of Akira Sonada. Very astute, and knowledgeible regarding Nova-Human relations. Semed like my equal in such affairs on the Baseline end of things.
Intellectual people stimulate me more than the average person.
I stopped by my old friend at the shrine. It's been quiet there recently. The priestess has had fewer Nova visitors as of late. Seeing myself was a breath of fresh air. At least by her reckoning.
Finally returned to Jinbocho and the home office. While not too efficient in lay out as of yet, it is now a functioning corporate headquarters. Hopefully when the rest of the dust is cleared out and some respectible equipment arrives, I should be set.
After having a meeting with all the division supervisors, some more eager than others to get to work, especially in the data security department, I headed back to my home.
My cat seems to have taken a liking to the new residence, and has made a couple of nests on the second floor. Found a couple dead mice as evidence of her new-found hobby of pest control.
I encourage that. Perhaps by killing off some of the rabble, she'll teach through force not to attempt to chew through my materials.
I will get an exterminator in here, but for now I'll let her exert her totalitarian regime. Although Yomiko as of now is content on sleeping on a couple old computer manuals I stacked up for supporting a light fixture I'm currently repairing.
I slinked up to the top-floor shack, and flopped down unto my inflatable bed. Happy todays initial work went well without suprise.
Funny... I've always preferred air to springs... much more efficient for supporting the body's weight...
Meh... Tomorrow's another day. Some of my crews I've hired for the disaster support teams are grumbling regarding their new uniforms. They say they're too... unique.
I thought having stark white bodysuits for the paramedics would work out. You know, white coats, white gear...
Oh my... I... Colorcoded them didn't I... Well, it's not set in stone yet, perhaps after some input they'll get comfortable with their roles.
Thank god that minor hangup is all the report I've gotten so far.
