I wasn't sure whether "Project Steve" was something to introduce in fiction or not. At the moment it's a memo. If we pursue this I'll continue posting to that fic.

Given Steve's level of fame it's safe to say your wife is famous by association now. Anybody she would re-marry would be scrutinized by the public, unless you figured out how to change your appearance somebody will make the connection.

Why not just play out the circumstances of your eruption instead. Unless you have a reason to stay "baseline".

just thoughts

Re: Lorean

Might not be an issue there, between her shapeshifting, cloaking and the fact that eventually we'll get out of this timeline it may be more of a moot point.

I'd say that's as good as any of the others we've put up so far.

I enjoyed it laugh

I'm really liking all of the fictions. You guys are really exploring your characters and that is great.

Re: projects Steve and Lorean... you guys are about to go sailing over to Proxima Centauri and there are going to be probes there searching for what happened. Lorean's stealth tech is good, but the people of earth are going to be putting everything they've got into figuring out what happened to Enterprise. The odds are good that you guys may end up public before you'd like to be.

I'm seriously liking Andrew's idea, that's just brilliant. Having Steve "erupt" shifts all the burden of proof to anyone looking into this, it'd be easy to "proof" since he's already a nova and his fingerprints wouldn't change, etc.

Ideally we'd do this before his age gets *really* unusual, which means before he hits 3 digits. The date that stands out as a good choice IMHO would be April 1st, 1999.

So he would have 'erupted' before the opening of the chapter? We are on New Year's Day 2000 right now.

That would be fine. Lorean, however, would not yet have been revealed.

True, Lorean's plans wouldn't get off the drawing board but we should assume they're being made.

But with Andrew's alteration Steve's thing can be done instantly. I'll admend that so that it does.

Luckily this clears it all up.

I'll be honest, I was suprised you hadn't thought of that ahead of me.

Re: Lorean

Andrew and Steve have the resources and the connections, Lorean could be their private vehicle, created by Advantech ...

it's possible, though it may strain plausability

Steve has spent 80 years looking like a baseline and 65 or so pretending to be one. In that mind set, it just didn't occur to me.

This is why it's on the table more for 2010 than 2000. In 2000 we announce plans to do it, over the next 10 years we talk about what stage development is in, etc. It'd be expensive but it'd let Lorean operate without a cloaking device, thus freeing up her energy to do other things. It also let her fly into ports and let us pretty much openly resupply her and that sort of thing.

Granted, this isn't such a big thing right now, but in 50 years or so it might be. We're moving into space in a big way and Steve is thinking ahead. Also granted, current events will likely change our options.

What about leaking information that the Paragons, in conjuntion with certain private interests, had secretly been building a jump ship of thier own. It's existence was going to be kept a secret until after the 'first' jump ship went active. I do see a potential problem from within the paragons, as most members have never even heard of the ship, and will have the right to come aboard.

That's the conflict between world famous (which it'll have to be) and top secret (ditto). I'm thinking the "rich man's yaught" is about as close as we can come to merging those two concepts.

That's the beauty of the Advantech angle, a true mega-corp with very good PR could get away with something like this no problem.

Yeah, nasty thing is people really do eat the ... you know.

Originally I had thought to have Andrew actually kill a pregnant woman but I decided against it. I want Andrew's story to be about a guy who loses everything that ties him to humanity phsycially but retains and even strengthens his moral resolve as a result of it. Hopefully I'm doing a decent job with that.

Thanks BTW, glad you enjoyed it.

If Omar ever learned that Andrew killed a pregnant woman, he would lock him away. Luckily you decided to go with the hopital raid angle.

Well of course he wouldn't have told anybody, hell he'd of kept it secret even from Steve, Morgan and Lorean. It really came down to being so completely out of character that it felt lame, plus I like the idea that even as he physically degenerates his morals are becoming more solid. It makes a nice counterpoint.

Of course eventually you'll all find out in game but in the meantime I had some fiction gold there to mine so there you are.
Currently the only PC that knows about his eating habits is Steve and the only NPCs are Lorean and Morgan. That you players know is fine because I trust you all to play accordingly.

damn, that means something bad happened

Edit: Updated my IC post accordingly

Edit Edit: Fox, I assume it is safe to say that the jump tech was tested in system to prove the concept and to be sure that communications would be possible powst jump?

Edit again ... "powst jump?" when did I get an Elmer Fudd accent?

Can any Warper in the Paragon arsenal actually make the Warp all the way to the Enterprise? That's 14 successes!

Science explanation:
The ship what tested in short jumps in local space but had no problems.

The way the tech works is that genetically engineered biomatter is combined with the hardtech. That biomatter is somewhat like a cross between eufiber and nodecells. It is a living non-sentient colony of cells that can interface with the hardtech, store quantum and is designed to do one thing only, which is warp. Communications are done using a smaller version which opens a tiny warp very briefly so that a burst of data can be sent through. It is the only way communications can be accomplished over those distances. Einstien's theories still hold, when it comes to traveling faster than light.

Not if they're built on less than 50 nova points.

Q5
M-Perception 5
Warp 5
Perception 5
Averages to 13.5 succ.

So with the huge varience in how Mega-Dice roll out maybe they could do it half the time or something. But if they only have Warp 1 then they'd need a powermax and still only succeed half the time or less. Or at that level they could just keep trying it and have it work once out of 20 times.

Problem is if they're going into a hot zone, then you don't want to have to use a powermax to get there (once per scene) or depend on someone who's powers only work once out of 20 attempts.

With Mastery the math gets a lot better. 20x per succ rather than 10x, so they'd only need 11 succ, not 14. They'd also start with 6, not 5.

In that case none of the Paragons comes in questions - they are about 30 NP on average, as far as I know.

Slider was the warper involved. She is very good at it but it did take her several attempts which Lorean can confirm by running the footage backwards. In fact, she is very nearly out of juice at this point having opened two warps to Proxima centauri, first for the probe then to rescue Gabe.

OK so it's reasonable for Andrew to theorize that maybe the long distance warp pooched the comms and the ship just can't talk to us.

We can just consider it part of what happened before you saw the video, and that we did not get the chance to do what you wanted because Lorean presented the video of the probe.
