So is this k-bec thing going to be a joint story? Or part of the new chapter? Or a tail end of the old? I am unsure! Also, confused. I'm saying that someone just told Doug where there is a chicken that lays golden eggs, so he's likely to want a piece of that if he can get it. Further, with the Squidward situation now might be a good time to take a trip out of town... So a visit to K-bec is definately on the "list of things to do", and Calypso is the obvious person to ask to get involved. So it's a plot hook more than anything. We don't need to pursue it but it's an option, and something I fully intend to bring up IC.

Possibly...how does it work, and is it reversible and if so, how? Expendable has it right. It costs 5q to set up, but after that it can be broken by either party and it's free to set up again. It has a range of 1000km per (Q+D). It's listed in the abby errata, although where that is on this site I keep forgetting. Technically it can be hacked by a for-real telepath (Squidward has done it), but that's really hard, if someone can do that then they can heck into your head more easily. Doug can't attack people through the link (and he has no other mental powers 'cept for p-shield), and while it's up it gives a +1 diff per extra person linked (i.e. +1) for mental attacks. Given the insane range it's not good for location, all Doug can tell is if someone is in range which limits their location to North America. Switching from one person to another costs Doug an action, so out of combat it can be rotated without a problem (but in combat normally he doesn't bother). So basically it's a quantum cell phone. If you don't like it, you can hang up and never pick it up again.

that's a good solution for balance, but it's kind of odd in terms of in-game experience. What about Courier's presence would inhibit it? I'm sure we could come up with something, but it seems to me that Dave's idea might be cooler from an RP perspective.
Seven's aberration might not -just- be that she's mute. She might be sort of pre-linguistic. The problem isn't with her mouth, it's with her brain. This would be limited to her ability to generate language, of course...she can understand what people are saying...but her own thoughts and experiences are never linguistically expressed, even on a purely internal basis. Therefore, even a direct mental link can't create words from her. There are no words; no possibility of words ever forming.

that's a good solution for balance, but it's kind of odd in terms of in-game experience. That sums up it's strengths and weaknesses. It keeps the links ability to sidestep language, but also enforces the actual weakness. This sounds really cool... but it's also a bigger handicap than just "mute". Being mute you can use sign language, or write words, or even play 20 questions. With this you pretty much can't. How about something a hair less limited, you can use the link, but you can't even think about saying words because you're never been able to. I.e. if you think about writing something down, that counts as a "deeper" level of thought and it doesn't broadcast (or at least Seven doesn't know how to). So you can't just think about writing something, you'd actually have to write it and then read it.
