Okay, suppose you're a new nova. And suppose you've gotten to a point where you'd kinda like to not be a nova for a bit. And there's this technique called "Dorming down" that everyone's talking about, but you can't quite get the hang of it on your own.

Anyone have any tips, tricks, or OpNet sites that are reliable?

I would be interested in this too.

But whyever would you want to turn off your node?

I've tried it once. I concentrated while meditating. I visualized my Quantum as a ghostly entity then I put that image in a box inside my mind.

I felt like someone had driven a spike into my brain. Everything seemed out of focus and slowed down. I gave it up before going outside.

Mind you, I'm not a flashy nova and I don't have a problem with Quantum Backlash. I can pass for normal most days.

At the concert. Uh, because sometimes I end up too charming for my own good, and I'd just like to get something to eat without drawing people to me.

I dorm. I spend a lot of time dormed actually. Utopia taught me exercises using viualizations where I pictured myself as I was before my eruption, amung other things.

They also said some people just don't have the knack for it, so take that for whatever it's worth.

Visualize being normal.

While I wouldn't necessarily put absolute trust in the folks at your friendly, neighborhood Rashoud Clinic, they did alright by me. I don't 'dorm, but everyone I know who can (present company potentially excluded) either knew it when they erupted or learned it from someone who knew. I hear it's sort of like meditation in that regard; some people have to learn, and some people just have a knack for it.

Maybe I'll just take some classes for it.

I wouldn't phrase it that way... which isn't to say I disagree. "Short sighted" is a better way to put it. The only possible reason for Dorming that I can see is so that we get drunk easier, and I'm sorry that's not much of a reason at all.

We novas are at the top of the heap. We get more money, more women, can drink much more wine, than any baseline can. Yes, I realize it's a heavy burdon... but it's one we need to learn to enjoy.

Josh, I partially agree with you. I can't think of a good personal reason for me to dorm. I have heard it helps some aberrated novas appear normal - at the cost of your Birthright.

On the 'for it' side, I would rather have the tool in my tool box than not have it and need it. Know what I mean?

Why would I want to dorm down? I dont' get it. I can understand why SOME folks would. If you're the Hulk and you want to occasionally have a decent night's sleep in a normal bed or fit into soemthing other than the MegaHummer then yeah, I can understand.

But why folks who don't look comic-booky?

Some people have the power to mess with the world, or people's minds in a way that can get tedious. There is a time and place for just being one of the crowd, instead of a shining star.

Screw dorming. It's for those too weak to revel in what they've become.

If I turn off being a nova, I lose the ability to fight my enemies. Hiding is not enough. Sometimes I must have the strength to kill.

Like anything else we can do, Dorming is a tool/talent/skill that has it's uses. You have to learn where and how to use it most effectively. For me, it helps me avoid certain potential social headaches.

How easy is this skill to learn, anyway? Are we talking "riding a bicycle" or "doing quadrilinear equations in your head while doing ice ballet"?

Primal, you sound like you'd be one of the ones interested in my Full Body Feast. Polynesian style barbecueing where the whole body (minus the necessary adjustments) is served on a table. Few have been courageous enough to try.

Hmm, not much into cannibalisim. Tell ya what, keep it from looking like a person and I'll try it.

I am always one to try something 'extreme', Johnny. While I usually involve myself with physical pursuits, the 'full body feast' is extreme enough in other ways to give it a try.

It was fairly easy for me but I can't speak for learning the skill overall. I can do it almost subconsciously now.

Dorming down is a great way to stay off the Grid when the flies get thick. Flies can't bring down a lion, but let one of those fuckers bite you when they're carrying a virus your immune system can't handle...little fuckers can make your life miserable. Plus, it sucks when you have things to do and you're getting mobbed. Damn, now I know why celebrities go postal on paparazzi. You convince them you're another fly, and they'll all go buzz off somewhere else to piss someone else off.

It's...meditation. Visualize who you were before your mind expanded. Feel yourself folding in on yourself. It takes work, but it can be done.
